We had a great time this week diving into the research on Jane Seymour and her son, Edward VI. Jane is an (admittedly) overlooked wife for me, but I really enjoyed making this video and recreations.
Jane Seymour is one of Henry VIII’s most enigmatic wives. Despite being the one to give birth to a son, Henry’s greatest desire, she died not long after the birth. We know very little about her - lost to history are her personal thoughts, motivations, and feelings.
Henry’s choice of Jane Seymour as his next Queen puzzled the Tudor court. Jane was from a family whose ties to English royalty reached far back, but the Seymour’s had recently fallen on harder times.
Jane was entirely different from her predecessor, Anne Boleyn. Where Anne was hot tempered, Jane was demure and obedient. Where Anne was witty and charming, Jane was hardly educated and quiet. But these very qualities might have been what attracted King Henry to her in the first place - they represented a return to peace, and to the status quo.
In addition to few portraits, we also have very few descriptions of Jane from her own time. This is what we know:
Jane was considered quite plain, even for the standards of the time. She was 27 when she married the King, old by Tudor standards, with very fair skin, dark blue or grey eyes, and was a medium height.
Ambassador Chapuys wrote that she was of “no great beauty”, and Sir John Russell remarked that she needed a lot of adornment, like fine fabrics and jewelry, to shine, whereas her predecessor Anne Boleyn needed very little.
However, as we know, her unassuming appearance and demeanor helped her greatly in her marriage to the king.

No legit: Celine Dion. Anne Boleyn and Celine Dion= same face.
Henry should have appreciated Catherine of Aragorn. She was a remarkable woman.
Maybe she found those men boring and uninteresting.
Where is it in the records that women were thought of as physically and mentally inferior? There are records that say the abdolute opposite of many women of that age and before. Everything must be understood as individually motivated and in its specific context. That's just good scholarship
Parece muito com a atriz Saoirse Ronan!!!!
The woman underneath looks a little modern, strangely enough.
"A free France"? That's a pretty wack take on what happened next, since
yeah, when she smiled i couldn't help beaming back.. thankyou 🙂 x
GOD! I always heard she was ugly with a big nose (which doesn't make sense anyway)
Is it the voice of alux ?
The Hever Castle portrait is my favorite.
Jane Gray had supports ...such a shame that history didn't remember the furious and decissive battle between those two women's army. I saw many comments underneath but yes it is a shame that for a Millenium the bride/ spouse was taking for responsible of the child's gender....they didn't no about sperm responsibilty so they use a century old misogyy
Notre bon Louis XIV Était magnifique et de plus très grand……. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤je comprends mieux le pourquoi …..😏😉😉😉
The result is altogether different from the coins, depictions and the narrator's own conclusion from all these. She had angled edges all over her face, how does it do with anything in the renders? Which is too idealistic and abstract anyway.
Prince Albert seems pretty based
I was a little boy back then but I used to watch an animated series with Sissy. Little did I understand that the events were happening in one of the greatest european empires
@21:13 my heart 💔
Funny...the first recreation kinda look like Monica Bellucci when she was in her 20's .
Greatest American to have ever lived. What I would give to meet him and have any length of talk with him.
Also credit to Sally Bush, being a parent and role model he needed in that moment. She has a lot to do with his success and should be revered like he is
I think she was beautiful and so young. You did an amazing recreation, it’s very eye opening and she became real,so sad.
What software do you use to create these reconstructions??
She would approve of these portraits. I think she was beautiful in her own way.
Wow, this was extremely moving. The pinnacle is seeing his works, they are absolutely breathtaking , particularly after he started using alot of color. I'm off to the VG Museum in Amsterdam ASAP! Thank you for making this. The end brought me to tears.
Anglican rejected protestants Tudor change his mind the cleve meat cleaver
Marie Stuart soutenue au depart par la famille de Guise venant du cote maternel a fait l erreur impardonnable de se declarer Reine d Ecosse de France et AUSSi d Angleterre . Elisabeth ne l a jamais oublie!
I think her face was fatter and she had a bit of a double chin.
Love this!! Very well done!
Wow! I loved it when Catherine of Aragon smiles!
Still can’t understand why Athena, the embodiment of wisdom and sensibility would succumb to vanity and pride.
Looks like yesteryear Tamil actress Kanaka.
The Greek one is hot but I actually prefer the Mycenaean.. Great Job!
What's the name of the music that was used at the end
Facial Reconstruction is an excellent science, lovely ☺️
that’s definitely anastasia, she is a spitting image of her mother
1:56 is chillingly realistic, in my opinion. I’ve loved Elizabeth my whole life and have wondered so much about her real face, her height, her smile, the sound of her voice.
She was beautiful and had great presence which is more about attitude really.
Why is the picture deleted????? Just s black display!??
She was sweet and kind is a sort of default. Not that I doubt that this was true. I would add that she was both intelligent and savvy person..as you have stated.
Dark hair for sure.
That was beautiful Princess Ann resembles her, plus little Prince Charlotte I meant Queen Elizabeth video
She had red hair! This is clearly a form of bigotry the way Hollywood refuses to portray historical redheads realistically ["The Tudors, The White Queen and many more]. Red hair was prevalent in the Royal Family beyond and before the Tudors and in medieval Britain itself and the only Tudor monarch without it was Henry VII.
The tv series becoming elizabeth, the actor they cast as Edward VI was absolutely perfect!!
Anastasia 😢😭🙏
I bet Edward V1 would have grown up to have been a really handsome young man had he lived.
The third rendition reminds me of Wonder Woman. The actress that portrays her possesses the beauty of mythical Helen.
I do so like Jane Seymour, and not just because she is my namesake.....
Henry looks like dj Khalid but white
She looks Chinese 10:01
